Jodhpur is the second-largest city in Rajasthan and the former capital of the Marwar region. It is popularly called "the Blue City" as it looks completely blue from an aerial view because of its blue walls and houses. Jodhpur is primarily famous for its royal family, temples, lakes & snacks, with the magnificent Mehrangarh Fort being the main attraction. The fort is one of the largest and most imposing in the world and is considered to be one of the most well-preserved and best-maintained forts in India. Mehrangarh Fort was built by the Rathore Rajputs in the 15th century. The founder of the fort was Rao Jodha, who was the chief of the Rathore clan. The magic of Jodhpur lies in the streets of the old city itself, which circles the mighty Mehrangarh. Hundreds of shops, guesthouses, eating joints, and vendors make it a bustling chirpy town, especially near the landmark clock tower and Sardar Market. The new and modern Jodhpur lies beyond Mehrangarh fort. Nearby Jaswant Tada and Umaid Bhawan Palace are also among the top attractions in Jodhpur. Jodhpur is famous for its delectable food items, especially Pyaaj Kachori, Mirchi Bada and Mawa Kachori. In September, the city hosts the colourful Marwar Festival and Rajasthan International Folk Festival. Some traditional villages are located around Jodhpur, and a tour of these villages (called Bishnoi Village Safari) is one of the popular things to do here.

Although the roads in Rajasthan generally offer smooth and straight paths, it's crucial to reiterate the importance of staying vigilant and refraining from excessive speeding. This caution stems from the fact that much of rural Rajasthan's livelihood hinges on animal husbandry, and unexpected encounters with skittish goats, oblivious sheep, and towering, untamed camels might arise as they cross the road from the thorny desert vegetation. Prioritizing well-maintained brakes and heightened awareness will significantly enhance your experience along this desert route.

Ultimately, the selection was narrowed down to just five, a testament to the captivating allure of these structures.

Let's delve into the aspects you'll encounter during your Winter Tour of Rajasthan, drawing insights from our Rajasthan diaries. "We were fortunate to enjoy delightful weather throughout our Rajasthan journey, with daytime temperatures hovering around 25°C and nights cooling down to 5°C. Most of our Winter expedition was graced by clear blue skies, although sporadic smog and fog did make an appearance at times. While the thermometer dipped to a brisk 8°C in Jodhpur for a single day, overall, we found the temperatures to be comfortably moderate throughout our trip." Drawing from our experience with European riders and extensive rides in Rajasthan, we strongly recommend carrying your winter gear as the wind chill factor can further lower the temperature. Prior to booking your Winter Trip in Northern India, we encourage you to read our blog on Winter Riding Gears.
During the summer months, Rajasthan can be subject to scorching temperatures, soaring to a staggering 50°C. It's easy to envision how challenging that could be for sightseeing and travel. We believe that one of the reasons the hustle and bustle of India didn't faze us was the absence of profuse sweating and constant discomfort while riding. We urge you to explore our blog on Rehydration and Summer Riding for a more comfortable riding experience.
It's worth noting that if you happen to be lactose-intolerant, you might encounter some challenges here. In Rajasthan, "vegan" often translates to no meat and eggs, but includes ample usage of butter, milk, cream, and ghee. Some European riders have travelled equipped with lactase enzyme tablets; however, from our past experiences with moto expeditions to India, major issues have been rare. Caution is advised, though, as dairy seemed to be a ubiquitous ingredient in almost every Rajasthan dish, making this an effective approach to sidestep potential stomach cramps.
Explore India's distinct stepwell system, an unparalleled marvel with solutions for agrarian kingdoms from bygone eras. Abhaneri showcases the grandeur of Chand Baori, the world's largest stepwell. While other stepwells in Bundi lacked an entrance fee and were marred by litter, they still offered a glimpse into diverse well styles. Our supreme pick, however, was in Jodhpur. Toorji Ka Jhalra was impeccably maintained and open for exploration. Here, we captured the dreamy stepwell photos travellers long for prior to their India sojourn. You can peruse our India photographs, where our commitment extends to cleaning endeavors alongside French Motarde and Triumph UK Bikers in the Himalayas.
